i3 vs Pentium

Go to solution Solved by harrynowl,

i3 is more consistent. There are tasks the G3258 will be better in but overall the i3s 4 threads make it more worthwhile as a purchase.

Just watched that, he doesn't take about pentiums, talks about the i3s i5s i7s...

I don't know what justifies paying an extra $45 for an i3...

Hyper threading does.

An i3 stock matches a Pentium K at 4.8Ghz in most games those rendering the pentium as pretty useless because the amount of money you need to reach that overclock is the same price.

So no overclock on 1155?

No G3258 is the first overclocking capable Pentium since Intel moved to multiplier overclocking only on Sandybridge.

Can't really do much until I sell the vampire computer but I'm trying to debate which processor will be good for my mom down the road...

Probably won't use the computer much after this year and about the only video games I can get her to play is Sims and the Walking Dead from Telltale games...

I know price on the Pentium is great but could it really be justified to pay an extra $45 for an i3?

Why 2 SSDs? This is a weird build

Maybe he wants 1 GB/s reads and writes. Tho honestly I would get a 250GB BX100 instead and save $20 to put towards other area's of the build. That almost covers the cost of moving from the G3258 to a i3-4160. Which in itself is a drastic upgrade in comparison.
