main rig as home sharing server?

Hi so this maybe dumb to ask with homegroup integrated in windows but that doesnt work so can I use My pc as sort of nas. I dont have enough room in my house to have another box. As there is no nas-type case available locally and to get one i'll have to pay more than 400usd+tax to get 1. Locally I can get large old cases and i cant keep one. So is there a solution i can do to use my current pc as server (everything but plex)?

You could always check if your router has USB slots and put an external drive or an internal drive in an enclosure and have access to it from every device on the network. 

You can also configure a shared folder over the network from the folder options menu.

Using an external drive or a thumb drive is always an option to move files around between your devices.
