Pebble and Pebble Time

I am thinking on buying a Pebble or a Pebble Time. Should I buy the older and cheaper one or the Pebble T

ime? I also have a problem since I still go to school in the start of every class I need to turn off my phone an put it on a box on the teacher's desk. Will the watches work fine and perform basic tasks without being connected to the phone?

Define basic tasks....a pebble doesn't do much without a phone; and even with a phone, it doesn't do much other than show notifications/the time.

And whichever you like the look of more as the two are fairly similar.

By basic tasks I just mean hours and date.
