Pentium won't last in games for too much longer but it's not a bad CPU, I would just recommend a good CPU cooler so you can actually overclock it.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Get the cheaper MSI H81M-P33 motherboard.

If you feel like you can overlock, get that G3258 and a CM Hyper 212.

If you don't want to overlock, get an i3-4150 or some other non refresh i3 then use the stock cooler.

G3258 @ 4.5 | 8GB Team Vulcan RAM | 128GB Kingston V300 SSD (I didn't know what I was doing when I bought it) | MSI H81I Motherboard | Corsair H55 with Noctua NF-P12 | EVGA SSC GTX 960 4GB | OCZ 550W Fully Modular PSU with Noctua NF-A14 | Cooler Master Elite 130 (Soon to be something cool)

The Pentium G3258 isn't really a good choice. An i3 is $35 more, but a much better gaming CPU since it can give a decent approximation to an i5, as virtually all AAA games released in the last couple of years want at least 3-4 threads and no amount of clockspeed can make up for only having those two threads. I have a G3258 that I got up to a stable 4.4 GHz (on the stock cooler too), but the bottleneck on my GTX 970 was pretty awful except in games from the Core 2 Duo era; e.g., Crysis 1, the old Call of Duty games, stuff like that. The only recent AAA game that played really well on my Pentium was Bioshock Infinite, which I could keep my 970 at 100% GPU usage in mostly even with the Pentium at its stock 3.2GHz clockspeed. Everything else though had lots of annoying frame drops and GPU usage falling into the 40%-60% range over and over as my 4.4 GHz Pentium just couldn't keep up. Your bottleneck would be significantly less with a GTX 960 vs a 970, but you will still likely have lots of nasty dips in GPU usage, as lots of times a 960 can be comparable to a 770 and I have heard the bottleneck can be nasty when pairing a G3258 with a GTX 770. An i3-4130 or better is a much better match for a GTX 960, and with its really strong per core performance is the best budget CPU one can buy for gaming. You can get most of the performance of an i5 + GTX 960 in most games with an i3 + GTX 960. No amount of overclock on a G3258 will match an i3.

for a beggininer build I wuld use an h61m-p33 from msi... a cheap board that serves as an introduction to PC building/gaming that you can always upgrade later.

That 500w power supply is really nice tho

CPU: Intel i5-2400 Mobo: ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z RAM: 8GB G.Skill DDR3 1333MHz GPU: Sapphire R9 280x Tri-X Case Corsair Obsidian Series 350D PSU: EVGA 500w 80+ Certified

I'm not sure about the i3 but I've been watching some reviews and benchmarks between the pentium g3258 and the fx6300 and its the same and some times the g3258 is better and this is only a begginer build I'll upgrade in the near future

If you plan on upgrading definitely steer clear of the FX-6300 or any other AMD CPU. If you're buying the Pentium as a stopgap until you can get an i5 that's fine; that's exactly what I did, buying the G3258 because it was cheap and then upgrading to a Xeon E3-1231v3 a few months later. Not the most cost effective way to do things, but I didn't have the money for an i5/i7 at the time. With that said, Broadwell should be coming in the summer, so if you're buying this system to upgrade the CPU in a few months you should really consider a Z97 board. Supposedly Broadwell desktop CPUs will only be sold in unlocked variants, and a Z97 board would let you overclock them. B85 won't be likely to support Broadwell, and neither will H81, H87, or Z87. H97 boards will support Broadwell CPUs, but probably won't let you overclock them.

Something like this could be pretty nice, assuming you're going for a Broadwell i5 or i7 later in the summer.

Motherboard: ASRock Z97M Anniversary Micro ATX LGA1150 Motherboard  ($74.99 @ Newegg)
Video Card: Asus GeForce GTX 960 2GB Video Card  ($209.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $430.95
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Here is a video showing how much of a difference this i3-2100's hyperthreading makes vs just running two threads like it was a Pentium.

So just be aware a Pentium is going to really limit you and should only be considered a very short term stopgap if you're into AAA games. It's really something better for games like Minecraft, LOL, WOW, CS:GO, and so on.

as i said before its only a temporarily build after 3 months or maybe more ill change the motherboard and the cpu

and btw i play lol alot

and bf4 and arma3 and i use 720p res

the real question is can i run gta v on high to ultra settings

I had the G3258 for a couple months then upgraded to an i5 4690k. The g3258 was a little underwhelming. Its not as good as its worked up to be. But it was still decent for the money, if youre going to upgrade soon and its temporary then youre probably alright. I have a 760 and it ran games fine with the Pentium. I did max it out alot when playing games like Arma 3 and Rising Storm. Even minecraft maxed it out. But BF4 ran great and im assuming that GTA should run good for you. Upgrade as soon as ya can though. It gets annoying maxing it out with everything you do.
