Seagate 3TB HDD Unalocated space

Go to solution Solved by KamiKatze,

This is a known problem. It's due to a old formatting method. Use GPT instead of MBR.

Edit: right click on "Disk 2" and press "convert to GPT"

I noticed both of my seagate 3TB barracuda are only showing 1.99TB of space usable and the other 750GB (ish) of space as unallocated. When i right click on the unallocated part of the drive in disk manage it shows most of the options grayed out but i can still click on property's. I have tried formatting the drive and searched google for a bit and couldn't find anything. I also tried seagate tools and it don't really do anything other then test the drive for failures. What do I do? they are not OS drives

It has to be a GPT drive, not an MBR drive.

MBR is old and only supports up to 2TB.

You can do this :

  • Open CMD
  • diskpart
  • list disk
  • select disk <number of disk>
  • convert gpt

However, you need to delete all partitions and volumes on the HDD in order to do so.
