My friend gave me his old seasonic psu a few weeks bad. It works except the fan stopped working. I was wondering if there is a specific type of fan that needs to go back into this thing or just a standard case fan will work? I tried contacting seasonic for just a replacement fan and they absolutely refused to help me. They wouldn't sell me a fan or give me any info at all. Any info you guys will provide will be better than anything they will do. Thanks!

It'll essentially be a standard 120mm fan but the cable is almost certainly soldered directly to the circuit board, so you'll have to cut some wires and reattach them with the cables from the new fan

It's fairly straight forward to replace a PSU fan it's just that it uses a 2 pin power connector instead of a 3 pin fan header, you will either need to do some cutting and soldering to change the connector or get an adapter from 3 pin to 2 pin.

Note though the cautions of opening a PSU especially the large capacitors and their leads, since a shock from them can be a painful shock to a deadly amount depending on the person. It's suggested to discharge it as much as possible by first unplugging the PSU and pressing the power button a few times, then leaving it for an hour or so to discharge to ensure it's safe to open.

This thing has been sitting for a few months unused. Still dangerous?

It would be fully discharged then I would just be cautious of the contacts on the large capacitor just incase but nothing too much to worry about this point.

Good deal. I'm thinking about going to a local electrical store this week to pick up a fan with nearly identical specs to the fan I'm pulling out of the power supply. I'd rather put in something near the same rather than chance a different fan altogether. Figure it'd be smarter that way.

Sometimes they do use some insane fans in them like 2000RPM fans but look for fans that are very well pressure optimized and are quite such as Noctuas or Ek Vardar fans, I did this with a Corsair TX750 and temps were very good when I drew a max of 500W on it.
