Laptop after spill

Go to solution Solved by W-L,

Would distilled water kill the board? I thought it's safe and that's why they sometimes use it in water coolers.

It will be ok as long as it's distilled but it will need drying until it can be turned on again with isopropyl alcohol espically 99% will evaporate really fast compared to water and is non conductive, it will also help dissolve and remove any contaminates on the PCB's or contacts better than water.

My friend spilled some juice of sorts on her HP Laptop, we want to save it since it has an 3610qm in it.

everything in the laptop works fine post spill other than the keyboard, which is registering random keystrokes, but works fine with an external keyboard.

I ordered a keyboard replacement from ebay, but after replacing it im getting the same error, I tried washing original keyboard in warm water as well and after drying it gives identical results. this leads me to believe that there is some sort of spillage in the main board that's causing the issue

Can I wash the board with warm water? or maybe distilled water? other suggestions? thanks.

If you need to clean the PCB or parts in the laptop use isopropyl alcohol (>70%) is the best.

so some 70% isopropyl and a toothbrush did the trick.

thanks bros.
