Low profile ram vs "regular"

Hey.

 

Is there any difference in performance in low profile ram vs regular?

 

I've read that you shouldnt try yo overclock low profile ram, but is there really any performance gain from clocking ram?

nope, LP Ram usally has a lower clock, which isn't noticable in normal use really

depends, the low profile nameing sheme isnt an official one, it just means that chances are slim that your CPU cooler is going to interfere with your ram.

No difference except they have a smaller heatsink might run a little warmer.

Alright, so to sum things up.

 

Low profile ram has no performance difference from regualr siced ram

 

and

 

Clocking ram yields so little performance thats you're better off buying "better" ram

Like I said it depends. If you managed to get your 1600Mhz set to run at 1866Mhz, that's a free upgrade alright.

Not quite. If you manage to boost to 1866mhz and keep the latency, then it's a free upgrade.

Regular is low profile. Unless its the other low profile, where the ram pcb is half the height of a standard one. Kingston makes low profile ram.

Regular is low profile. Unless its the other low profile, where the ram pcb is half the height of a standard one. Kingston makes low profile ram.

Yes, it's from Kingston. Right now low profile in the enthusiast segment just means the heatspreader is about the same height as the ram's PCB and not ridiculiously tall where it will have issues with 3rd party CPU coolers.

Here is Kingston's "low profile" ram. It's half the height of its regular size ram

No performance difference, these are great for ITX build where spaces are limited.
