Logitech g710+ spacebar malfunction

Go to solution Solved by SeanBond,

The thing is, if the left and right "+" are moving freely, then the stabilizer is working.

the issue HAS to be with the plastic surrounding it.

You can see a square housing surrounding each stabilizer, with a "Triangle" like corner on each one.  does any of these look bent ?  You should be able to carefully bend them "away".  If the keycap "circle" plastic (surrounding the + cutout ,which goes into the black stabilizer +) is touching the housing that can cause it to stick.

There's also a tiny 'tab' under the stabilizer but I don't know what that is for.

Although there seems to be no change in the stabilizers this morning my space bar came back to life and if functioning at 100% again. One of the more odd issues I have had with a keyboard. But if logitech has taught me anything about there products, they seem to to be self healing lol.  I had a mouse dpi button go bad on my 502 and after about 5 days function was restored one day I woke up and used it. Weird stuff.

My space bar has become very mushy all the sudded and very slow to recoil back to normal position. It's also much harder to press down. But upon investigation of the switch without the space key cap the switch acts perfectly normal, normal recoil, normal feel, maintains tactile bump. Once again, there is no damage to either the keycap or seemingly the switch, it's a very weird problem and I can't imagine a solution but it's so frustrating to type on.

Have you checked that the two black Cherry switch style stabliziers have no damage to them?

As SLS has said, look at the stabilizers on the left and right side. of the switch.

Yes, they too see to be in normal order by comparison of the others on my keyboard.

Please remove a keycap from a letter key, like < > /, etc, and put it on the space bar switch.

If it functions identically to the regular letter keys, then the switch is fine.

The stabilizers are broken or misaligned.

Most of the stabilizer isn't visible; just the cherry plastic grip and housing.  There is a metal bar under it that is connected to both sides (left and right).  That is the problem.

Can you grab the + black thing by your fingers and move it up and down?  It should slide freely with NO resistance.  Check BOTH the left AND right sides (although both should react and slide up/down at the same time!)  If it does not slide freely, then its either not aligned or broken.  If it's not broken, it can probably be easily fixed, but that may require opening the keyboard case.  Otherwise you need to RMA it.

You can also check to see if the "square" plastic housing that surrounds the + stabilizer is somehow warped or bent inwards.  That can cause the stabilizer not to move up/down since the housing could be blocking it.  If that's the case it can be easily bent back with pliers or another tool.  They can even be clipped (There's a guide for "clipping" cherry stabilizers).  Usually this would only happen from unnatural stress or something that would cause the plastic to warp.  Usually these things last forever.

Logitech uses non standard lower row keys (space ,shift, etc) so normal replacement parts won't usually fit in these.

You sir, sound like a wonderfully intelligent man. I will attempt this now. But I will say the stabilizers move freely with no issue.

Edit: I placed a keycap on the space switch and it is functioning perfectly, if there is an issue it lies with the metal bar, however I can't really examine that.

EDIT 2: I just noticed, I can pull the stabilizers up and they will retain their position, even though they move freely with a little pressure the other stabalizers fall and bottom out just from gravity, however the space bar's seem...sticky if you will.

the issue HAS to be with the plastic surrounding it.

As I said, no perceivable damage. However the stabilizers are clearly sticking a bit. They are not stuck completely but they do stay however far I pull them up. They are not resetting after being moved, they have to be pushed back down.
