I5-2500K won't overclock

Go to solution Solved by Snaeb_aka_Beans,

Figured it out, I found out that sometimes chipset voltage (PCH) has to be upped to 1.1V from 1.05V for stability.

So while I am not a seasoned veteran, I've overclocked mostly any chip 1st gen Core and Phenom and everything to Piledriver/Devils Canyon.  But this 2500K with this EVGA Z75 SLI won't overclock.  I set the multiplier to x42 and voltage as high as 1.35V.  I set the VCCIN to 2.0V from 1.8V, changed power input to 225W but as soon as I stress the CPU, it dips from 4.2GHz to 3.6GHz and I cannot figure out for the life of me why.  Temps never crack 60*C either.  Any thoughts?

EDIT: Newest bios BTW.

Thats because the CPU will downclock itself when its idle to save power and less heat

Did you turn off all the safe bs in the BIOS?

It only downclocks when under load IE IBT/Prime 95, but at idle it stays at 4.2GHz.  I believe I did I will double check.

In Control Panel / Power Options for Windows what do you have it set to? If you have it set to Balanced or Power Save change that.

High performance.

Hmmm do you have anything that came with your motherboard that you installed that could be a power saving type software application?  If so obviously remove it.

Nope
