Greetings and well meet! I am recently entering into the pc world and enjoying myself. However, I am full of newbie problems, what bring me to now. I am currently running to AOC monitors, 1980 x 1080 and 60 HrZ. I want to swap one of the monitors with either a 120 HrZ monitors or get really fancy and try to push a 4 k monitor. My question is do I need both monitors to be identical to run duel monitors on on vga. Thanks in advance! :D

You do not have to have identical monitors to run them in a multi-monitor setup, however you need to have the correct interfaces. The 4K display for example would connect via DPort while your 60hz 1080p display could use HDMI/DVI/VGA.

if your gunning them off of VGA there is no point you might as well stick with the 1080 monitors. now if you had 2 display ports then something like a 1440p at 120 hz would be fine or 4k but if you dont have the out puts on your PC then there is no point.

also I personally prefer getting matching monitors just so the bezels match but its not necessary. you can run a 17inch LCD next to a 70 inch Plasma if you wanted.

What you are asking depends on a lot of factor.  Overall, no monitors don't have to be the same to run dual monitors.  Think laptops for example.  You can run dual monitors by using your built in laptop screen and an external monitor.  Aesthetically it nice to have matching monitors to get correct bezel alignment and such, that is, if you want them directly side by side.  Some prefer different setups for example at work I have an ulta-wide main in the middle then two 1080p flipped 90 on the side for extra length on either side.  As for running two vga stick with 1080p 60hz monitors because VGA can't drive anything more, the technology is limited.

I think that it is really prefrence, if you dont care small changes from monitor to monitor then it is ok. For me i have all the same monitors as if one was different the color can look slightly different of the bezel its self may be different and look out of place.

TL;DR Different ones can have slight color differences but if you don't mind then go ahead

I would advise anyone buying new monitors to calibrate them, I dislike mismatching monitors colour-wise.

ON A 7 MONTH BREAK FROM THESE LTT FORUMS. WILL BE BACK ON NOVEMBER 5th.
