I'm assuming if you're on this forum, you watch Linus's videos. A while back, while they were at CES in Las Vegas, I first stumbled upon the Asus Zenfone 2. At the time, I was extremely interested when I saw the specs of it. They said it was sporting a Quad Core Intel Atom processor with 4gb of RAM, for  $200 dollars, not on contract. Soon, as more info released there is going to be 4-5 models. I saw this webpage, and honestly I'm quite impressed. Anyone else? Does anyone else think they'll buy it if the prices are as promised? Anyone have MORE information?

It will not be $200 in the US for the advertised model at CES. It will be for the lower-spec version.

The 1080p 2.3GHz 13MP model at CES is going to be $300+

I'm really excited about them. It changed my mind about the OnePlus one.

Some Antutu benchmarks got linked. Too lazy to find the link, but I remember the numbers. The 1.8Ghz chip got an Antutu score of ~40,000 and the 2.3GHz chip got an Antutu score around 43,000.

I recently poked around Geekbench for the cpu used in the highest end Zenfone 2. To sum it up, it's just marginally faster than a GS5 (Snapdragon 801) and slower than the 5S in single threaded tasks (by a pretty big margin), but a tad faster in multithreaded tasks. http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/325030-asus-zenfone-2-goes-on-sale-in-taiwan-naturally-prices-revealed/?p=4417906

I was definitely going to wait for it and buy it but I'm kinda against 5,5" screens. I find them too big, so I got a 5" HTC. But the Zenfone 2 has everything I, particularly, am looking in a phone. CPU and GPU speeds and benchmarks are, nowadays, so close together, and sometimes so adulterated, and they mean so very little in the everyday usage of a phone that I don't even care anymore exactly which CPU rating the device I carry in my pocket has...

Sadly 95% of tasks on a smartphone are single/lightly threaded.

I can't stand the bezels and eye burning branding plastered on the front of the device

One reason among quite a few obvious ones that I'm a fan of Nexus devices is that all of them sport a clean front without a tacky mfg logo at the top or bottom of the front of the device

Desert Storm PC | Corsair 600T | ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ | AMD FX-8350 | MSI 7950 TFIII | 16GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 | Seasonic X650W I Samsung 840 series 500GB SSD

Heyyo,

The only potential downside to this phone? frequency band support. The Chinese model doesn't support the AWS-1 band I'd need for Bell Mobility Canada. :(

So... maybe once the phone releases in United States that they might have a model with AWS-1 support... but I dunno, I don't know if I want to wait forever on a maybe since the OnePlus One is now readily available since Asus has been so quiet about support. OnePlus One has support for all the bands I need which is the main reason I'm probably going to buy that over waiting fornever for the Asus Zenfone 2.

Looking at a different Chinese phone manufacturer? Oppo? Their "US" version doesn't support all the LTE bands that are present in Canada... so... that sucks too. I'm not bothering with an Oppo phone due to that.

Here it is on the Taiwan-only Online store for the top 2GB RAM model since apparently the 4GB RAM model isn't on sale yet:

Might wanna use Google Translate unless you can read Chinese. :P

Anywho?
