Hi!

I have some questions that maybe are dumb but well, when a question is not dumb? :P

For quite some time I thought about upgrading my system. Nothing crazy. Just change my PSU, perhaps my GPU, or everything and there is something that, for me and people around me where I live, it's kinda a myth or a lie. Perhaps is ignorance, I don't know. It has to be with airflow and cable management.

When I first got my PC, I went to some friends (who works as technicians, they've a diploma, a title, I mean, they're legit) and ask them to build it for me (as I'm too afraid to touch any of that stuff yet). They made it, but one day I opened the case so see it's dust state and I saw all the cables lying around everywhere and became a little concern. I'll be honest, until some years I wasn't aware of any of these subjects, so I started to research. Went to youtube, saw some videos, some tutorials, a SilverStone video about negative and positive air pressure and how that affects your system. Cable management videos, how to do it, etc. I realize that these things are important but at the same time I don't know how much truth there is about it. For what I saw here, my system is nothing special. I don't do overclock because I don't need it (and because I'm afraid of it too). For some people could even not be "gaming".

This is my current setup, just for you to know:

Motherboard Gigabyte GA-800GM USB3L (In 2 weeks or less will be changing it by a Asus M5a97 R2.0)

CPU AMD Phenom II x4 965 BE (In about 3 months will be changing it by a FX 8350)

GPU AMD Radeon HD 7750 1Gb GDDR5

RAM Kingston ValueRam 8Gb DDR3

PSU Satellite SL 8600 EPS 600w

Case Sentey Optimus GS-6000 Mid Tower

Components are old. But they do the work, so :P

Anyway, so summarize, I want to know if cable management and airflow/positive, negative air pressure is really that important? Or it's just important for bigger rigs, like SLI/Crossfire configurations, OC and all that stuff. It's just to show off?

Thanks in advance to anybody.

Its not really essential but good positive pressure will keep dust out of your case which can build up over time and damage delicate components. you can get by cleaning out your case every now and then but positive airflow is a more permanent maintenance free solution. Cable management is just a part of this - if your case is cluttered with cables everywhere air won't be able to effectively pass through the case.
