Test Surface

I'm building another PC. I don't currently have a case. But I need to test the machine. Now I have a Glass desk. Can I run the parts by just sitting them on the desk? Or will they short out?

Any kind of cardboard or foam should work.

If you have some cardboard around or a nice wood surface something that will not conduct electricity basically keeps it from static build up

The glass will not conduct but you may well scratch it with the 'jaggies' on the bottom of the MoBo.  Or you could bend/break something on the base of the MoBo by placing it on the glass.

Best to use something with a bit give in it like a sheet of cardboard(probably the cheapest and easiest solution) or a sheet of foam or even a piece of wood (preferably soft [like the, strangely, a hard wood :Balsa]).
