Today i woke up, and ran 3D Mark, it passed once, giving a slightly lower score than usual, so i ran it again, but during one of the tests it black screen, and the only way to get out of it was to restart my computer, so i tried to run the benchmark again 12 times, and problem persisted; i then thought it could be a software problem, and not hardware, so i tried other games i've been playing, like Thief, BF4, and Total War Rome II, and what resulted was frustrating.. Most of the games i played were not getting the same FPS as i have been getting playing them, so my experience was some how degraded; BF4 wasn't even playable today, as it would go down to 5fps for a minutes, then go back to 60fps, and return back five a few seconds later. When i looked at my CPU usage most cores were around 80-100% which hasn't been the case in the past month. I also noticed my idling CPU usage was way up, somewhere around 20-45%.

I ended up reinstalling windows, hoping it was just a software problem, but the problem persisted, and even go worse, as now i cannot even get past the 3D Mark intro, and it black screens right after that.

You... reinstalled Windows before thinking to monitor your GPU?

..................................................................................................................

Monitored it, and it was running fine. It was also a new GPU, and has been running fine the past two weeks.

So GPU-Z never reports clocks or voltages lowering when these massive performance drops or crashes happen?

Does your CPU get lower scores in benchmarks like CineBench than before these issues?

I don't know about the voltages, but the clocks seemed to be right, but i'll check again right when i get back into a game.

What is CineBench? :o

CineBench is just a CPU Benchmark, like 3Dmark for your CPU.

If you ran any CPU benchmarks before these issues, it would make sense to see if it can still match what it did previously.

You're not getting BSOD's which makes me think your CPU is probably fine, I can't say I'm a troubleshooting expert though.

Is 467 the average score for a i5 3570k on cinebench?

I'm not sure, I don't even know what your 3570k is clocked at.

I said it would be helpful if you had tested it in the past, then you could compare what you're getting now with what you got then.

My 4690k @ 4.5ghz gets 670-680, not that this helps you in anyway.

You could have also used the Physics test score from 3Dmark to see if your CPU was dropping in performance... but you can't get past the intro you say so that doesn't help.

I'm not sure what your problem is, but it sounds like GPU to me. I've had issues with overclocking where it wasn't unstable enough for the driver to crash, but not stable enough to keep running, so the screen would freeze on black, or the clocks would reset and lock at like 400mhz... resulting in terrible performance. Seemed like it could be related to your issue, but if GPU-Z says it's all fine, I really don't know.

It would be cool if somebody smarter than myself could help you here

I'm sorry I can't be of better help

It's just a standard 3.4gh clock :P.

I tried to do that with 3D Mark, but like i said, for some odd reason it black screens, i was getting into the physics test earlier today, even when blackscreening was a problem, but now it won't even make it that far :S. It was around 20 FPS though, basically normal.

Does this look alright? I was getting better performance yesterday though :S

I'm not certain, power consumption and load look a bit erratic but I don't know exactly what you were doing and when.

The only other thing I can think of that might help this is K-Boost, a feature in EVGA Precision X.

All it does is locks your clocks and voltages to their max when enabled, which stops fluctuations that could be worsening performance or causing instability.

It basically disables the GPU Boost power saving feature when enabled, which causes issues to some.

I just can't figure out why this would just start happening to you if everything was fine.

I don't want to be wasting your time by telling you to do the wrong things lol.

Your issue is odd.

If it is a GPU stability problem with clocks and voltages, it would make more sense if this was always a problem, not something that just recently appeared.

If this doesn't help, and you still can't figure it out, try getting help on overclock.net or just keep asking for help here every now and then if nobody else helps in this topic.

I'm certain there is someone out there that can help you better than I can, they just haven't stumbled upon your topic yet.

Make sure to provide everything you've tried that hasn't worked and things you did right before you noticed this happening that could have caused this.

It can be a pain to get help in forums, I've been there done that...

Again, I'm sorry for not being able to be of better use

Try reinstalling your drivers. Did you make any changes to the system AT ALL before the issue started?

I've already done so :S. Nope, not at all! I just woke up, and turned it on :D.

How can i tell when power consumption and load look erratic?  I was just benchmarking Thief :S

Will the EVGA feature work with Gigbyte cards?

Yea, it's a weird, and frustrating problem, as i'm very careful with my system, and cautious about every time it's in use, i don't even overclock my system in fear of something going wrong, so i keep it in its natural state :D.

No worries, any kind of help is appreciated :D

I'm not familiar with the Thief benchmark, but GPU Load shouldn't be going from 100 to 0 to 100 like it looks like in that graph when the card is being stressed. Only time it does that on 3Dmark is in between segments while loading, when it's idle.

The EVGA feature works on all Nvidia cards, works on my Gigabyte 970 G1.
