I read a review on asus z77 sabertooth lga 1155 motherboard and the guy said when installing the evo he recommended low profile ram. Is that a requirement or just a recommendation? I myself am leaning more towards an ASUS p8z77-v pro. Would that be the same recommendation? I don't want to get low profile if I don't particularly need it.

Yeah I was wondering this too; will corsair vengeance work?

The cooler with the fan hang over DIMM slots. You'll need low profile RAM for the slot closest to the socket.

Unless you're using all 4 RAM slots you can use high profile rams. If you're only using 2 sticks then you can use the slots that is the farthest away and it won't interfere with the fan.

Thank you, I will just be using 2x4gb sticks (for now)

I have Vengeance RAM on a Z77 mobo with a 212 and it doesn't hit on the furthest RAM slots. 'Low profile' in this case really means regular RAM without silly heatsinks on it. The other Vengeance model with the small heasinks will work in all slots.

so the only difference is the gigantic heatsinks? More for something to show off? That's good to know :)

That's the only difference  :) RAM spec really doesn't matter as long as it's DDR3 1333mhz or higher.

Thank you. I appreciate that.

It depends a lot on your mobo and depends how you want to orientate it. I barely fit mine horizontally sacrificing one RAM slot but that was all :)

you're using 3 ram slots? 12gb?
