I'm looking for something under $1,200 USD. Something that can compete with the MacBook Air.

Preferred Specs:

      Intel Core i5/i7 quad core

      >256GB ssd (I can deal with 128 but I would prefer 256)

      8GB RAM

      Intel 5000 graphics

      <4lbs.

      <15in.

1920x1080 (a little less would be accepted)

My uses:

      Light photo editing

      Social media

      YouTube watching

      Twitch watching

      E-mail checking

      School work

Why not a macbook air/macbook pro ? it is perfect for your use case..  and if osx is an issue install windows but i dont see why that is an issue. price wise they come very close to your max budget but they are a perfect fit for what you want to do.

Broadwell doesn't exist in mainstream, non-ULV chips yet. You're not getting HD 5000 series graphics and a quadcore.

Anywhere.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I really just don't want something that's going to die in a year. I've that macs can do that

Don't beleive everything like that while it is true that a mac could die in a year anything could die in a month a year and based on what you do a mac would be a perfect fit as i said.

Get the $1000 model

http://www.dell.com/us/p/xps-13-9343-laptop/pd

Core i5 (5200U)

8GB RAM

128GB SSD

1080p IPS Display

13.3" Display

Compact body.

If you really want a quad-core with that type specs, go back to 2012, and get a Sony VAIO Z series.

But from your uses, the 5200U should do the trick.
