1440p vs 1080p help PLEASE

I have a R9 280x that im going to be using in my first build. I need to choose a monitor. Ill be using it for studying/productivity as well as casual gaming. I definitely want better visuals rather than response time etc. Please help me solve the following: Can i get decent fps with a 1440p display? I want to be able to play gta v smoothly (when it comes out ) as well as BF4 and Arma lll etc. What would look better, 1080p ultra or 1440p med-high? Also is there any IPS 120-144hz monitors?

AA is short for Anti Aliasing. It's a technology that gets rid of jagged edges in game and 3d programs to make it look more real.

What looks better, an IPS display that is 60hz pulling 60fps in game, or a tn display pulling around 100fps (what id expect my card to reach)?

Its better if stick with 1080p.

You could probably go with a 29" 2560x1080 ultra wide that would work nice and run at 75hz.  I'm running a r290 and just got an LG 29um55, its an older model monitor but it looks fantastic and runs flawlessly with my r290..

 

 

to add, you might hold off on purchasing a video card, from what I hear AMD is going to release a new card in like April, so I would assume the older cards prices will drop a bit..
