You shouldn't need one as long as it's packaged good. The only thing you need is the socket cover on a motherboard.

No need for the box in most cases, its just a piece of cardboard....

 

 

And as for throwing them out? if its a sub-$200 part I keep mine for as long as the in-store return period is, and then bye bye box.

thanks for the reply, unfortunately he threw all his boxes out so hes stressing about returning them but this will make him happy ty!

Mobo box is nice thing to save since you can store all manuals and spares in there. Leave CPU on socket if you don't have the socket cover anymore. Use the antistatic bag for mobo (for CPU bit of foam is enough). Serials are printed on those things so they will find match based on your receipt/warranty infos.

 

E: Last thing I RMA'd was Sennheiser in-ears. Just sent them in envelope with copies of receipt and warranty info.
