Basically windows is saying I am using microsoft basic display adapter instead of my r9 285. Help? Aslo, windows thinks my display is 4:3 instead of 16:9

1) Always post your complete system specs along with details about the issue you are experiencing. It will help a lot towards figuring out a solution.

2) How long have you had the card?

3) Was it working before and now it is suddenly not being recognized?

4) Have you tried re-seating the card into the PCIe slot?

5) Do you have the correct driver installed?

Ok. What was the issue with your previous one and how long did it work before you had to RMA it? If you have already RMA's one, I would recommend that you try contacting XFX customer support. It could be a DOA card.

This may seem like a "duh" question, but do you have both 6-pin PCIe power connectors plugged into the card?

You are connecting your DVI/HDMI/whatever to the GPU and not your motherboard, correct?

I meant no offense, but I had to ask. You would not believe how many times that is that issue.

So, to make sure I'm understanding you correctly, you can get to your desktop, but you cannot see the GC listed in Device Manager?

I'm a little confused on how you can be getting to the desktop if your card is not being recognized, given that the FX-8320 does not have integrated graphics and your mobo does not have native graphics support, so your display has to be coming out of the GC. Have you gone into CCC and made sure it is put to the display resolution you want?

It sounds like windows has decided the driver is not the right one so is still using its own, I've seen that happen before where the Catalyst installer doesn't detect the card correctly but it normally fails at that point it doesn't succeed but not work.

You could try deleting the device in device manager then reboot, it should then re-detect the card on boot and if you have the right drivers installed pick them up.

I am not sure if you have it (or someone said to download it). But get Nvida Geforce Experiance and download that. It might suddenly "detect" it and might work?
