Powersurge then computer not starting

There was a power surge only in my brothers room and not in the whole apartment.

Then his computer won't start up.

His light bulb stopped working to, so we changed that one.

 

We live in Sweden if it matters.

 

We managed to start it up with my psu, does this mean that his psu got overloaded by something?

Will it be enough for him to buy a new psu?

It is possible that his PSU blew an important component, such as a capacitor or a voltage regulator.

 

If the system works fine with your PSU, he needs a new PSU.

^. You'll have to work through troubleshooting. Try switching to a different PSU, and if works with 'new' one, it's his PSU. If it doesn't, then it's likely the motherboard.

if it ran fine with your power supply then yeah just get new one.

If the light bulb is also broken you probably had strong overcurrent in that room, then the power cut out. I would guess that the fuse inside the psu has broken. you can probably not exchange that by yourself and you might have to replace the psu

Yeah that psu is gone. your lucky it didnt take anything else out. Thats why you have surge protectors or for extra measure unplug when done.

I have not opened too many PSU's, but generally they do not have replaceable fuses like a multi-meter or so forth.

if the light bulb blew, then you may be f***ed, sorry. Check for fuses in the PSU, you may still be lucky.

We have already tried it.
