Define R5 fan placement?

Go to solution Solved by LogicalDrm,

2-1 is already enough for basic use. Maybe try that and see if you need to add more intake and exhaust. The 2-1 is 2 intakes and single exhaust, usually in rear. Using side exhaust isn't really practical since none of normal components use exhaust towards side panel. Non-blower style GPUs exhaust air everywhere so having side exhaust just for that isn't that practical.

What's your plan for the top fan mounts?

My plan is to put the stock two 140mm coolers in the front as intake as there is a dust filter, use another 140mm on the bottom as an intake as there is a dust filter, and use the side and back as 140mm's for exhaust.

So... What is your question?

I recommend putting the stock fans as exhaust or bottom intake. They don't have the power to get air from the front to the rest of the case (in my opinion). They bring in the air, but it diffuses too quickly for my taste. I'd max out at 3 in (front and bottom) and 2 out (rear and side), as you sacrifice a lot of noise dampening when you open the top for an AIO.

Just a warning, I did an R4 build recently and the H80i rad with both fans on it would not fit on the top due to RAM and motherboard heat sinks. Sure you can work around that, just be concious of your rad width. For intake, I put one 140mm above the drive bays (took 1 stack of drive bays out) and 1 on the floor beside the psu as well. That gave the GPU in that build the most fresh air.
