I am almost finished with my first computer build and all I need is a GPU. I have a:

Core i7 4790k CPU

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-SLI Mobo

Solid Gear 750w PSU

My case only allows about 11.3" for a GPU before needing to mod it, so I do have some constrictions there. I want to play current FPS game while using better graphic setting and still getting decent fps, but I'm not really worried/interested at this time about 4k anything. I do play TF2 DOTA 2 and EVE Online on my current setup with no problem and wouldn't mind the boost in fps. I'm looking to stay in the $200-$250 price range. If it a little higher I might consider it.

Any suggestion would help a lot.

Thank you.

LET THE FLAME WAR COMMENCE!!

I like the price point of the Radeon R9 cards and  a 290x is supose to be awsome if you can handle its power draw

Dota and TF2 Dont take much.

Play anything demanding like BF4 or Farcry?

280X

Pretty much all 280X and 290s are longer than 11.3", With the ones that aren't, being around 10.6". Considering how little room there is, it's probably a small-ish case, so getting a cooler card would be a good idea, as well as one that fits, without having to play tetris to get it in.

I guess you are right, one of those tiny 960's would be better.

Edit: Well they are all pretty tiny :D

If you want to get a GPU from Nvidia, then just get the GTX 960, you could add SLI later.

Or if you want an AMD GPU, then you probably should get a R9 290/280x.

But with 200-250$ I would get an AMD GPU.

You can get a 970 for around $300, or a 960 for around $200

There's ITX versions of both if you're worried about space. Here's one of the best ITX 960s: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-video-card-gvn960ixoc2gd

why are you recommending 960, that GPU sucks!, better option 280 or 280X

Or more power 970

I am wanting to get back into BF4 and try BF: Hardline. I used to play on a console but recently got into PC gaming.

I have a Mid-sized case but there are four (4) 2.5" bays in the front middle of my case that restricts my top 2 Mobo slots to 11.3". They would have to de-rivet to take out. Since I have a duel 2.5" to 3" adapter I currently have no use for those bays. I just don't want to take them out unless it is needed.

If it makes that much of a difference I can take the bays out and then I won't have a size restriction...as long as I don't mount more than one (1) card.

I completely forgot to mention this...I am playing on a 24" 1080p monitor via HDMI right now. I would like to eventually expand to two (2) maybe even three (3), doubtful but maybe, monitors in the future. Since I am new to the PC world I am not sure about the multi-monitor specs and/or restriction between different cards and manufacturers.

If I were you, I would go for a used/recertified GTX 770. They come in pretty much right at your budget, and they are really good cards. I run dual a 1200p monitor and a 1080p monitor on my desktop, and I don't notice any frame hit, since the second monitor generally doesn't do anything while I'm gaming.

If not the 770, the 960 is a decently solid option. So is a r9 290/280x. Really, any of the suggestions put forth a very good options to run with. I personally have a 980, and a 670 dedicated to physX (I used to have two 670s, and didn't feel like putting the slot covers back in... or removing the other two PCI power cables... lol) but that's neither here nor there. With the games you're playing, it sounds like you would be just fine with any of the suggestions here.

Hey! New SIgnature!

I'm supposedly a person on the Internet, but you'll never know if I'm human or not ;)

ITX r9 285: click me

Compact GTX 960: click me

Would probably suggest the 2nd option (Asus STRIX 960) only because it is slightly more powerful than the 760... Not to say that the 285 is not a good card, its just sightly better performance and aesthetics.

EDIT: You were worried about room? both of these cards are relatively small compared to other cards with the same performance.
