SDD basics?

I was looking at the reviews of the Samsung 840 EVO 500 GB, and people tend to be unsure about the lifespan of the cache.

So what are the basic things like cache in an SSD?

The cache in an SSD is actually DRAM, not NAND flash. As such, it doesn't actually degrade at all like the rest of the SSD memory. The SSD cache has infinite lifespan.

No need to worry about Cache. However the 840 EVO is not without its flaws indeed. It's a very fast SSD, but somehow data that is stored for a longer time slows it down.

Samsung tried to fix it a couple of months ago with a firmware update, but the fixed EVOs are now showing the same problem again.

I have 3 of them and used to recommend them in the past, but now I honestly can't do that anymore.

One question though, when using some sites to find specific SSD's it says SSD types:

3d v-nand / Multi Level Cell / Single Level Cell / Triple Level Cell.

What's those things? @Captain Chaos
