Hello, I am new to the forums, but I have a problem that I have ran into last night. So my system specs are:

CPU: AMD FX 8320 @ 4.7ghz

GPU: EVGA gtx 470 @ 800/2000 (yes i know it is old)

RAM: 2x 4gb (g.skill sniper series), and 1x8gb (patriot memory) @ 1600mhz

monitor: 1366x768 @ 60hz

So my rig isnt the best. I was playing Battlefield 3 and i noticed that i could play it on ultra settings at a constant 60fps, but after a while it started to degrade in performance, so i reinstalled windows, and now the game lags all the time. I have reinstalled drivers, etc. and on the windows performance, i got a lowest of 7.8 on my cpu, and a 7.9 on graphics, but after i reinstalled, I was only able to get a 7.1.

I am really confused about this, and does anyone think that i should be upgrading soon? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

What's the maximum amount of VRAM your card consumes? (using Afterburner or some other program)

I can get it to you tomorrow, after i do benchmarks

You can just play Battlefield 3 for a bit with the program in the background, and then look at the maximum value.

I think that the card is getting old, i am thinking up upgrading my card to either an hd 7970, or a gtx 770, what do you think?

Go for either a 770 or a 7950. The 7970 isn't that much better compared to the 7950 considering the price gap.

The 770 will be more than enough for all 1080p gaming while the 7950 would also do very well.

They're neck and neck.(7970 vs 770)

What driver are you using? 320.XX are having a lot of performance issues with BF3 you should unintstall the driver using ccleaner then run ccleaner and clear out your registry then custom install driver 314.XX only and that should help you out.

I did a clean install of windows, and installed the latest drivers from nvidia, so i dont think that drivers are the issue

If you installed the latest drivers that is your problem it's all over the net that the 320.XX driver and BF3 are having major issues you should try my option out what do you have to lose? I was having major issues with my 560Ti using those drivers.

the 7970 actually holds it's own quite well, being a higher binned part, they overclock better than the 7950. and can yield a lot more performance

(1) high frame rate (2) ultra graphics settings (3) cheap...>> choose only two<<...

if it's never been done then i'm probably tryna do it. (((((((Bass so low it HERTZ)))))))

It's not a bad card on its own but next to the 7950--doesn't look like the best deal. The 770 also flat out beats it including when both are overclocked.
