980 or 970 SLI minimun or 290X CF

960 is not enough.

Heat will be a problem right?

The heat thing is blown out of proportion by nvidia fanboys. Trust me, amd is the brand to use in this setup. 290x preferably.

I really thought that a 980 is more than enough for 1080 surround! I guess I'm wrong! But I can't afford more than 600 bucks on the gpu!

$300 x 2 = $600

 

If that's too much, then look at used\

 

-btw crossfire 290 is way better than a single 290x
