Upgrade unactivated win7 to win8 doable?

Alex(PlayMedium)

I found conflicting answers online, so I want to make sure by asking here :)

After reinstalling win7 a few months ago after an incident with downsampling(works properly now, just destroyed my OS once ^^) I found out that I don't have any activations left on my cd-code, but I am getting tired of all these popups saying my win7 isn't legit, activate now, blablabla and also I want my wallpapers to stay when I reboot..

So, I want to upgrade to win8, used it a bit before and I don't think I'll have too many problems with it.

Now I am only wondering if I can upgrade my current non-activated windows 7 home premium 64bit to windows 8 (pro or which one?) 64bit or if I need to get a full version.

Yes you can. I used a copy of win8 upgrade version to upgrade a fresh win7 install. You can also create bootable media from the 'upgrade only' version that will work on any machine even without an OS.

Basically the builders edition is Microsoft trying to rip off people who think they need to spend £50 more.
