Do you need one? No, not really. Should you want/get one? Abso-freakin-lutely. Boot times are decreased, program launches, game load times, file searches, data transfer, are all decreased.

However, whether you should get one also depends on your budget. Really, if you are spending more than 1000 bucks on a pc an ssd is basically a must, but for more budget oriented builds an hdd will do you just fine for the time being.

Now, the great thing about hard drives is that you can always upgrade if and when you have the money. In fact, I plan on doing that to my laptop in the near future. I didn't have the money at the time to purchase a laptop with an ssd that would have driven the price up significantly, so a bought a model with an sshd and I plan on in the near future upgrading the storage in my laptop to an ssd.

Makes a pretty big difference in relation to load times when playing games and how fast your PC turns on etc but you don't have to have one, its more or less a quality of life thing for your OS and most used games, wont impact upon your FPS though.

Okay, I think I'm gonna buy one.  What size would you recommend?

256GB and a HDD for programs and stuff is good. A 128GB should cut it though if you have a tight budget.
