Like the title mentions I potentially have a few extra parts lying around.

I just acquired a gpu and psu that I plan on throwing in an apu build. However, this means I will have a 500w psu sitting around from the switch. I also have a few old hdd's like everyone here pretty much. I also have a mini atx case sitting around.

So, I have a few options...

I could buy a new board and cpu putting the apu in the mini atx, and I don't think that I would have any problems.

I am also looking for other Ideas on what I could do.

Additionally, what board+ cpu do you guys recommend (I may consider selling it to a friend as a daily driver, and he doesn't game)

Depends on what GPU you got but if you own a dedicated GPU chances are that all you'd need would be an athlon 860K and a A88 chipset motherboard to overclock it...or an i3-4150 and a cheap H97 board maybe? depends how strong of a gpu you pair with this and what resolution you play your games at...

An Athlon 760k, or A8 APU would be my choice. As far as motherboards go, just get the cheapest one from a reputable brand.

the apu that i have is a a8-6600k but i want to make 2 systems out of what i have basically

gpu isn't high end just mid range comparable to 260x

A 860k, how well does that overclock?

pretty good but nothing spectacular i checked the other day and 4.2-4.4ghz is what most people seem to be getting out of them...and it's a perfect match for GPU's up to an R9 270X for 1080p gaming...not bad but the i3/H97 smokes it in every games though.

Hmm I'm thinking about price, an i3 i could probably snag for 100, and a board for 75ish that's without a cooler too...although it is locked so...

Unless you need a new system, just sell those extra parts.

Otherwise, go for an i3.

around here I have the possibility of selling a whole system never any parts - it just doesn't happen.

well its only 15 bucks more for an i3...I think that's the route I should be going. (+ this mobo has expansion to locked i5 later)  I'll save up a bit more so i can get a decent amount of ram the system right off the bat too.
