upgrading cpu

Go to solution Solved by i_build_nanosuits,

so u are saying if i upgrade my gpu r9 290 it will be better then cpu upgrade ? since i got Intel Pentium G3420 and r9 270  or should i buy gtx 970

no, you equaly need a good CPU and GPU in order to get good gaming performance...IMHO the CPU upgrade should come first as it will make a good difference already.

And if the R9 290 and GTX 970 cost about the same you should get an GTX970...the ''problem'' with the VRAM is not a huge one it's just that the card can only use 3.5GB of it's 4GB of VRAM in games...not an issue really.

Look for i5 haswell + GTX 970 if possible that's a winning combo

hi i already got gpu that is r9 270 and

Intel Pentium G3420

do i need to upgrade my cpu .

i wanna use this gaming pc for playing crisis 3 ,bf4 ,lol and watch stream in the same time.

sometimes i would also prefer to play a game and stream so do i have to buy i5 4690k or can i go with i3 ? or should i go with i7 4790k .

i actualy dont really like to overclock but i might so could somebody tell me what is good for the money ?

Hello and welcome! No you dont need to upgrade your cpu but you would see a difference. i3 4460 are very good.if your budget allows i would go with an i5 CPU.if you aint gonna overclock i would look into i5 4460/i5 4590.

No need for i7 if you will not be doing heavy work like editing/ heavy media stuff.

Get something like a 4460, it won't bottleneck a 980 and is a bit cheaper than something like a 4690k.

CPU: i5-4690k GPU: 280x Toxic PSU: Coolermaster V750 Motherboard: Z97X-SOC RAM: Ripjaws 1x8 1600mhz Case: Corsair 750D HDD: WD Blue 1TB

damn thx guys :)

with the prices right now i see the i5-4590 priced at 187$ in the US which is only about 9$ more than the i5-4460 but the 4590 has the advantage of a 3.7ghz boost clock vs 3.4 for the i5-4460...i think the i5-4590 is the sweet spot right now for price/performance and would suit you really well...here paired with a good motherboard for the price as well:

CPU: Intel Core i5-4590 3.3GHz Quad-Core Processor ($187.99 @ NCIX US)

Motherboard: ASRock H97 PERFORMANCE ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($99.99 @ Newegg)

Total: $287.98

Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Get an i3 or i5. What motherboard do you have? If it's an H97 or Z97 motherboard OR an H81/B85/H87/Z87 board that's had a BIOS update (compared to when these chipsets first released) then it will be ready for Haswell Refresh CPUs like the i3-4150/4160/4360/4370 or i5-4460/4590/4690. If it has an old BIOS then you can still upgrade to an i3-4130/4330 or i5-4430/4440/4570/4670.

You don't need an i7 for what you're doing. An i3 will provide much better gaming performance, and an i5 will be a bit better above that in more demanding games. Especially if you're interested in getting a GTX 970, then I'd recommend getting the i5. It will perform better than the AMD FX-6300... heck, even the i3 would perform better.

Intel Core i5-4690K what about this or this Intel Core i5-4690 >? they are the same but 1 of them are unlucked is it hard to overclock ?what water cooler is needed to overclock ?

A water cooler isn't needed. Overclocking isn't hard. A good air cooler which costs 30$ would suffice. If I were you however I would just get a locked i5 4440.

overclocking is very easy and can be done with only a 30$ tower heatsink such as the cooler master hyper 212 for example...overclocking with such a cooler will probably give you around 15 to 20% performance increase rather easily...up to you to decide if it's worth the extra cost for the ''K'' CPU and the Z97 motherboard....with the prices right now the most interesting chip for budget gaming is the i5-4590 which retails at 187$ right now and has a boost clock of 3.7ghz.

With the i5-4690K you can easily get around 4.2ghz...which represent a 13.5% performance increase.

what about 1080p gaming what card is the best for it i wanna play evrything on ultra and get best prize

R9 290 or GTX 970..

R9 290 for best price will run games on maximum settings.

Also about previous post, the CPU performance increase won't translate into gaming performance increase in most cases, you'd be limited by the GPU performance which is fine...overclocking will give you performance for later down the road when the CPU will start to limit your newest GPU...then you'll want to overclock it to bring some more life into it.
