Depends on what you do, if you like to have everything open on your desktop at once or you do any kind of production go with 16gb if you just want to game, get 8gb. There is more to it but...that is the short story.

This.

I can tell you now that if you like to have Spotify open, plus internet browser (especially Chrome) + other applications or perhaps a game, then 8GB will feel like a vice grip. If you just want to just game or do application work outside of gaming (not together/at once), get 8GB. Otherwise, 16GB (Which I would suggest for the other reason as well if budget isn't a factor) if you want to have lots of things open at the same time, especially games.

If you do editing and stuff, 16GB all the way!

RAM tends to be a all or nothing factor, either you have enough or you don't. So take this example, you are playing a game which uses 4 GB of ram, if you chose to use 2 GB you will face stuttering, if however you chose 16 GB you gain zero performance over having 4GB.
