I'd like to start of by stating i'm almost done building my new PC w/ a Gigabyte R9 280X card and the final part is shipping from Canada & should be here in around 2 weeks.

SO.. my problem is that the current monitor i have is a HP 2009m & it's max resolution is 1600x900. Also, it doesn't have any compatible ports other than a DVI-D that i can put in the DVI-I port on the card so i'll have to buy a cord for that.

Here's my options:

  • Sell the monitor for $110 or more (Like that'll ever happen) and buy a nice 1080p $140 Viewsonic i found
  • Deal with a lesser resolution and still have to spend money to buy a DVI-D cord. (Sigh)

Now that you're caught up here's my primary reason for posting here, when it comes to gaming, Skyrim in particular w/ ENBs, will i really notice a difference at a lesser resolution like 1600x900? The chances of me selling a VGA monitor for over $100 is like asking for a cat to play fetch.

why not just buy a cheap DVi convertor on eBay for like $1 and save up some pennies for a new monitor.

don't hold your breath on getting $100 I just sold 2 1080p ips panels online and they only went for £100! that's like $150 for 2!

when it comes to gaming the higher the resolution the better in my eyes. and with a 280x you should aim for 1080p minimum. it could easily play skyrim at 1440p without too many mods.

I'd stick with what you have until you can buy something better.
