Hey guys, so today I turn on my PC(Just build recently) and after I got to the Windows 8 login screen, my PC just turns off, I tried turning back on after around 5 minutes and it started working without turning back off, then while I was browsing the internet, I loaded up Star Wars Knights of The Old Republic MMO, 5-10 minutes into the game it turn off my PC, this happen twice since I tried it again and the 3rd time while I was playing I manage to get through 30 minutes without the PC shutting off, Is this the case of a bad PSU? I check all my temperatures and they are all normal, not overheating.

I doubt the PSU is the problem, Seasonic is a very respected brand, BUT if it has no intake air, it may overheat and shut down, check the exhaust of that psu for hot air.

Try booting to safe mode (yes i know it's a drag to to that with Win8) and open event viewer by right clicking the bottom left corner of desktop. Then if the was an error it will appear in administrative events. Copy and paste what is it provided an error is logged.

Case: ThermalTake Level 10 GT, Motherboard: Asrock X79 Extreme9, CPU: i7 3930K @ 4.4Ghz cooled by Noctua NH-D14, RAM: 4x4GB 2133Mhz Corsair Dominator, GPU: Asus GTX 670 Direct CUII 2GB @ 1228Mhz max boost clock, PSU: ThermalTake Toughpower XT 875W, Drives: Western Digital RE4 1TB HDD (System), Corsair Accelerator 60GB Cache Drive (Smart Response Technology), Seagate Barracuda 1TB (Backup)

I don't feel any hot air from my PSU

Based on the fact that you have no error stating that a failsafe had been activated it could very well be the PSU. Although just incase it isn't try standard system troubleshooting i.e. test for bad components, more often than not it's RAM.

Alright then, thanks, gonna RMA this PSU

Try dusting ur PC out.

Dust it out a few times already still having issues, I'm just gonna RMA the PSU :)

I'd check your psu, also (this may seem silly) But sometimes the psu isn't even connected right which would "trip" and cut out the power. Worst case would be that you have a bad psu and that it's actually faulty, maybe one of those options?

Check your temps on your CPU it used to happen a lot on my old laptop (Turns off) If not the PSU might be at fault It could be over heating, is it on carpet you could be depriving it of air if it is facing down if you can't move it turn the PSU so the fan faces up

Nope, it's not on the carpet, its on my computer desk. My CPU temps are not going above 60 degrees always around the 50+

I think the PSU might not be applying the power correctly. Get a 600W PSU, then you'll have more than enough power and have a little room for upgrade later on.. Perhaps the processor as that thing could bottleneck that graphics card.

System Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X

GPU: Radeon RX 7900 XT

RAM: 32GB 3600MHz

HDD: 1TB Sabrent NVMe -  WD 1TB Black - WD 2TB Green -  WD 4TB Blue

MB: Gigabyte  B550 Gaming X- RGB Disabled

PSU: Corsair RM850x 80 Plus Gold

Case: BeQuiet! Silent Base 801 Black

Cooler: Noctua NH-DH15

Also test your ram.

So test for CPU core heat, PSU, and memory. Good chance its one of those and its easier to check heat and memory then the psu

Most likely its the PSU? does it turn off without notice or does it say windows is shutting down? If it is the PSU RMA it

Yep it turns off without notice, I'll definitely RMA the PSU now

Thanks to everyone who help :)

Sorry to break it to you, I had this problem you need to restore it to factory state. I recommend putting all the files that's important on your pc to a USor removeable drive or burning it on a DVD. Also I hate window 8, don't get the window 8.

For me I have a Hp so it's not hard.

If the PC actually shuts off (as if you'd pulled the power cord) and your CPU is not overheating to the point of self-shutdown the most likely cause is the PSU or cables from the PSU to the motherboard. The other possibility would be faulty motherboard.

I can't think of any other problem that would cause a complete system shutdown, all other problems would or at least should present themselves in a different way (bluescreens, blackscreens, sudden reboots etc.)

I've never seen or heard of broken Windows or drivers causing instant shutdowns.

Bad ram can do it. Best to run mem test and rule that out first
