Greetings all

So, this is a 'no rush build'. I'm going to upgrade my system most likely during summer 2015 when i can work and earn some extra (I'm a student). Also if I can find good deals before that I might go for it. For now I'm looking for suggestions, opinions and experiences from others and trying to decide the parts.

My goal is to be able to do some heavy gaming such as modded Skyrim, ArmA 3 and future releases. My current system somewhat manages but it could be a lot better.

I live in Finland so I'm in the € region. I haven't really decided on a budget but the cheaper I can get the better. My monitors and all the peripherals are ok for the time being.

My current setup:

Case: Bitfenix Shinobi
CPU: Intel i5-3570K (not overclocked)
CPU cooler: ARCTIC Frezer Pro Rev.2
Motherboard: Asus P8Z77-V LX2
RAM: 8GB Kingston HyperX DDR3-1600 CL9 (2x4GB)
GPU: Asus Radeon HD 7870
Storage: 2x 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200
PSU: Corsair TX550M

What I'm hoping to get:
An SSD, atleast a 240Gb one
GeForce GTX 970, looking at the Gigabyte G1 for now
Increase the RAM to 16Gb
A new CPU cooler since I'm hoping to overclock the CPU as much as I can, I'm thinking something like enermax Liqtech 240x or similar
-new to overclocking so also looking for some guides to this
And since the Shinobi really doesn't handle watercooling well, I'm thinking of getting something like Nanoxia Deep Silence 1
I'm hoping my current PSU will be enough for all of that, but if not, then that too needs an upgrade

Looks like a solid plan, but there are better cases though: NZXT S340, H440, Define R4/5, Enthoo Pro.

And yes, your psu will be plenty.

Welcome to the forums!

An SSD, OC'ing, and a new GPU would be great ways to upgrade it. Since the Deep Silence is around the $100 price, have you looked at Corsair's and NZXT's cases? The current PSU will be fine, too. As far as ram, this'd be the last thing I'd upgrade. IT's not really going to provide too much of a performance difference.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

Okay, here are some tips:

  1. Forget the 16gb of RAM thing. 8gbs is plenty. Extra RAM is only really useful if you want to do some heavy video editing, as well as keeping 30 tabs open at once.
  2. You don't really need 256gb SSDs. I've got a 128 one, and I'm yet to feel the need for more space.
  3. May I suggest the Raijintek Triton as your CPU cooler of choice? Super strong, fair price, and a super duper awesome look.

Thanks for the welcome and the ideas.

I did some more research on the cases and I think I'll be getting the Define R5. Seems like the perfect case.

As for the CPU cooler, the Triton indeed looks good and sturdy. Didn't find much bad about it either. Plus its quite cheap, which is good.

The RAM increase idea is on hold for now, for obvious reasons.

Btw, does anyone know could I run Win 8.1 with my current motherboard? Asus site lists it only as Win 8 compatible (it lists others as 8.1 compatible) and I couldn't really find anything on the subject.
