Custom IEMs :D

jtai117

So! I've been running with a pair of Shure SE535 LTDs for a couple of years now (I actually have 2 pairs of 535s. Long story) and I've been really happy with the the clarity and the sound signature in general I guess. I tried out a universal pair of JH16 Pros at Jaben Audio and was blown away by them, especially the bass! Ever since then, I've been looking into getting a pair of customs but I'm not sure which ones to get. Here's my shortlist:

JH Audio JH16 Pro

JH Audio JH13 Pro

Unique Melody Miracle

Unique Melody Merlin

1964 Ears V8

I listen to a lot of rock, alt rock and sometimes some EDM too. I also do live audio a couple of times a week with a full church band. What do you guys reckon?

Yea, head fi is a big audio forum. Whenever I look for a new IEM to buy I'll always get linked to head fi.

I have driven all kinds of expensive cars, that doesn't make me a car expert ...

Yeah man, same. That and I see if I can go try them at Jaben Audio. They're an excellent source of information (sometimes too much information lol) but as I said before, they don't always respond to posts.

Who said anything about being expert? I sure didn't.

I kinda hope there's an expert on CIEMs lurking around these forums haha

Through my research, I'm leaning towards the JH16 lol. Incidentally, it's the most expensive at 1.5k. Either that or maybe the UM Merlin with its hybrid system thing ($950 for those). I'm a sucker for bass... I'll send you a PM with pics of my CIEMs when I get them although it probably won't be till later this year.

WOW 1.5k. That's alot of money. But CIEMs are on another level of comfort though.

It's not THAT much tbh. I know guys who spend a lot more than that on their gear. Just in case you're interested, here are the prices for the CIEMs I've listed:

JH Audio JH16 Pro - $1539

JH Audio JH13 Pro - $1480

Unique Melody Miracle - $1099

Unique Melody Merlin - $950

1964 Ears V8 - $1199

For a guy that does live sound, $1000-$1500 is worth the price of keeping your hearing healthy.

Many people stop at JH13, well $1K is generally a logical stopping for CIEM.

Dont forget about the JH roxanne and the new 1964 ears adele ;)

But anyway, I dont know any regulars here who are experienced enough with CIEM. I'd say ask them in headfi as that's generally where high end audio gear owners do their circlejerk

I was looking at the JH16 for the extended bass. Maybe I should go into my audio store and audition the JH13. Roxanne and Adel are just a bit too far out of my price range. I posted a thread on Head-Fi, got 1 reply in the hours that it's been up...
