About a week or two ago my cat jumped onto my Vaio and the keyboard just stopped working. It works in the BiOS, it works on the login screen but it doesn't work when it loads into Windows 8. I have tried to refresh by clicking assist when it is powered off but it doesn't let me due that because the hard drive is locked and I don't know how to unlock it. Can anyone help me?

Check the device manager what keyboard is shown, or if there is multiple ones.

Do you have a disable keyboard button? Maybe the can hit it?

Could you use the device manager to refresh the drivers / uninstall the keyboard (should reinstall itself upon reboot).

It shows there is one device there, I have tried reinstalling it already and it didn't do anything. I don't think it has a disable keyboard button, someone said using a shortcut such as Shift+ScLock locks it, but it didn't make a difference when I used the shortcut to try and unlock it.

I would advise you contact VIAO because they have proprietary configurations for their keyboards and hidden ones too, i remember i had a VIAO in 2003 when you hit fn + r +alt would lock/shut off my mouse pad but not the mouse buttons. Contacting Microsoft support for Win8 won't hurt either because it is obviously a key combination that locked your HDD.

Also, sell the cat. Selfish, jealous minded attention takers.

A water-cooled mid-tier gaming PC.
