Hi guys, I am building a pc for one of my friends and I just wanted to ask you guys something. Can I use  the MSI B85M-E45 with the G3258? I heard somewhere that with some non z97 boards you'll have to update the bios before you install the G3258 or something like that. Any help would be great. Thanks :)

You should be able to. B85 is newer and at the least, the manu should have updated the BIOS by now.

My arsenal: i7-9700k Gaming Rig, an iPhone, and Stupidity.

B85 is for business, so I'm not sure it would be enabled. *edit: but I'm not saying it isn't, I'm saying I don't know*

I would think it more likely on H81, but the only motherboard I can assure you has overclocking enabled is the Asus H87m-e, simply because I have two and my buddy has one, but I haven't tested or used any other 1150 socket motherboards.

A bios update isn't needed for the G3258 to work with any 1150 board. The updates are mainly for better oc'ing.

when I installed mine initially, it didn't overclock at all until I updated the BIOS as it was an H87 board that was never meant for overclocking.

q series are for buisness

b series are for small buisness

q has AMT and a bunch of other cool shit, b has intel small buisness advantage which is kind of useless imo

G3258 should work on both, boards usually ship with the latest BIOS so you should be right.

if you want to OC on low end boards get an ASUS. edit: according to chelsey you can on msi apparently

pc specs: 4 function calculator / 8 digit lcd display / colored numeric and function buttons
