Hey Guys! I need some help figuring out exactly why my Dayz in game FPS is so damn low! Basically I got the game yesterday and noticed that it was realllllly choppy in small towns, cities and just in general. In the forest things do clear up a bit but not a ton. I have followed a few tutorials on YouTube claiming they would fix my problems with no success. out of desperation I overclocked my CPU to 4.5 GHZ.... For some reason I thought overclocking might have helped because I heard  AMD's FX line is kinda weak when it comes to single core performance. I don't know if what I just said made any kind of sense but basically I did what one of the tutorials told me to do. Anyway, I have set the settings to low and still have a hard time running the game. Any help would be appreciated thanks!

BTW I really enjoy the game!

FPS in Towns/Cities: Around 25ish

FPS in Woods: 35-40ish

Build:

CPU: AMD FX-8350

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P AM3+

GPU: Gigabyte Windforce R-9 280x

Ram: 8gb Hyper X 1600mhz

PSU: Thermaltake 650W 80 Bronze Certified

Cooler: Hyper EVO 212

Case: Corsair 200R

HDD: WD 1TB Blue

Little to much info on the build lol....

Sounds normal for an 8350 and DayZ, if you want more performance you'll have to go Intel and even then you'll only get like 5-10 more fps in cities.

I heard they're coming out with an update soon to fix fps, but that was just something a streamer (Sacriel) said so I'm not sure.

Sorry :\

ARMA and AMD cpu. Pretty much is the problem. Moreso ARMA, but yeah.

Even with my i7.... still only get 50 ish FPS....

Just curious are there any other games out there that seem to have a problem with optimizing with AMD? BTW my next build is going to be Intel so I can experience both sides :)

DayZ runs horrible. period. SLi 980s with a 5820k and the game ran at 44FPS on average at 1080p. I'll try and find the YouTube video of it, but it shouldn't take much Googling.

I have a question.... I've seen people run it on YouTube very well. I'm talking smoooooth. Any input? Also, I've seen some videos were people have a very similar setup and get way better performance? BTW I'm not challenging you I just want to play Dayz... :(

Most games don't use all of the 8350's eight cores, which means most games aren't optimized for 8350's, which is why I don't like recommending them to gamers nowadays. My sig has a ton of benchmarks and information on games that perform poorly on FX compared to Haswell i3/i5/i7.

(not trying to hate on your 8350, just want to give you some information)

8350 is shit for gaming, you really shouldn't have gotten it for gaming especially if you planned on playing arma games at all

I would say either slaughter the settings so you can get a decent stable fps, let it stay the way it is, or if you have the budget just buy a intel processor and mobo and start over

My Build: 4690k @ 4.7 GHz, ASUS Strix 970 @ 1316 MHz, H105, Corsair Vengeance Pro @ 1600 MHz, H440, RM750

I'm thinking about starting over... maybe.... FYI between me, you, and everyone else on this forum I'm not the oldest personin the world. I'm 14 not 27 shhhhh... Yeah so money is kinda tight but I might be able to figure something out i.e sell my current parts and stuff....

Games always look smooth on YouTube. I wish there was a better answer than this. It's kind of hard to explain without getting really technical.

True, it just hit me that YouTube runs at 30fps so that's probably why everything looks so good. And thanks for the help btw.

I didn't even have to read anything you posted other than the title 'Dayz FPS Problems'

Everyone on Earth has FPS issues with the game. It's Early Access.

Those framerates are not out of the ordinary, and are what I usually get when playing.

EDIT; also, why did you make 2 identical threads 20 minutes apart? http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/315817-dayz-fps-problems/

-snip-

FX chips really struggle with DayZ because it essentially has zero multicore optimization whatsoever. Intel CPUs fare a bit better in dayz but it's still choppy. Even with my 3770k overclocked to 4.5ghz I barely manage to keep over 30 fps in some places. We can only hope that the new renderer being implemented soon will alleviate this issue to some degree.

CPU: I7 3770k @4.8 ghz | GPU: GTX 1080 FE SLI | RAM: 16gb (2x8gb) gskill sniper 1866mhz | Mobo: Asus P8Z77-V LK | PSU: Rosewill Hive 1000W | Case: Corsair 750D | Cooler:Corsair H110| Boot: 2X Kingston v300 120GB RAID 0 | Storage: 1 WD 1tb green | 2 3TB seagate Barracuda|

Thanks for the help. I made 2 threads so that I could get as much input as possible. I won't do it again if it's an unspoken rule.

DayZ is just very poorly optimized. The engine eats CPU cylces like it's nothing. I have a nearly identical rig and in towns I'm averaging about 30fps. I do get more than 40 fps when I'm not in town, but that could come down to the 4690k vs 8350.

Okay thanks for the input. Guess my problem is not really a "problem" then.
