CPU decision help

Go to solution Solved by KamiKatze,

Thanks for answering everyone.

I live in Switzerland so the prices aren't quite the same, it's about a 60 CHF difference between the i5 and the 8320 and about 80 CHF difference between the 860k and 8320.

@KamiKatze, yes, I'm building a new computer, but I wasn't really certain with the CPU. But you're all saying the 8320 is better than the 860k, so I'll go with that :)

Thanks again everyone :)

Well that's obvious because it is more expensive. What's the i5 4440 or 4460 in switzerland? That would be a goodalternative to a FX 8320.

Hi guys,

I need your help on deciding which CPU I should get. I'm hesitating between an Athlon X4 860k and an FX-8320, these are my choices due to budget constraints and the 8320 is as high as I can go for a CPU.
I'm planning on using my PC for gaming/streaming and work (programming, productivity).

I know these two chips are good overclockers, but they go on different sockets so the CPU will be my huge deciding factor.

Thanks a lot :)

FX 8320 will perform a lot better but you will have to go for old chipset.

I don't know prices on your country but try to look at Xeon E3 1231 V3 which is basically i7 4770 without iGPU but a lot cheaper and since it can't be OC'd you can pick some cheap motherboard with it.

Since motherboard for FX 8320 must be good to handle OC you have to pay for it more.

Check prices and compare it you can afford it. I am on mobile so it is difficult for me to check for my self.

I believe that out of the two the 8320 is a better and more powerful one. It comes with higher power consumption and heat emissions.

I think the i5 4440 is in the same price range as the 8320 and has better single-core performance, but the 8320 has a lot more potential when overclocked.

To be honest, I am not aware of the prices there. As @WereCat pointed out, the E3 1231 is also a solution, depending on what exactly OP needs. OP should try looking for benchmarks online between the four CPUs and see which is good for what and decide if more power justifies the larger cost :)
