Will DSR be worth it?

Go to solution Solved by D2ultima,

I just started playing with my GTX 970 and tried DSR. I played Far Cry 4 and BF4 at 1440p and 4k DSR, and to be honest, I can't even tell the difference at all, aside from the drop in FPS due to the higher resolution. Has anyone tried this and noticed any difference at all? if so, what game did you play? and is it worth the extra load on your graphics card?

Your monitor size and pixel density will make the real difference. Downsampling from 4K to 1080p or so on a 17" monitor like my laptop would likely have far less benefits than on a 30" 1080p screen.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.

I play Diablo III on a 1080p 39" TV at 4K DSR... and it is noticable, especially the pixel density(?) is better, not so jagged edges :) I have a 970 too btw

I see. I only have a 23" 1080p monitor. Is it possible that DSR is only noticeable if you have a bigger screen?

Its mainly for use for older games...

1440p is the max I'd use imo

Right! That's what I thought, however since I don't notice any difference at 1440p DSR in new games at all, I think it would be better if I would stick with 1080p, with more FPS.

As @D2ultima stated, it is more noticable on bigger screens

I guess I'd stop using it then. Thanks a lot!

1440p may offer some benefit to shimmering/crawling lines, which temporal filter-type AA hopes to fix. If you notice it heavily in one or two games, try using DSR and see if it helps. If it does, awesome. But don't DSR to 4K. Not really necessary xD.
