Currently I have £190 to spend on a gpu, I am liking the new 960 windforce g1, as that is right in my price bracket and looks baller as F**k, but I could wait and save up for the 290 (quite like the tri x from sapphire). The other thing I thought would be to hold off and wait for r9 300 series or 960ti, anybody have suggestions? (note my case is quite bad for cooling so perhaps another point for the 960?)

Edit: my full build is on my profile as well!

I have to wait and save for the 290 that is why I deliberate, maybe nvidia will have released a 960ti by the time I have enough for a 290 -_- oh and I have a bequiet! pure power 630 watt (got in a really good deal for £40). Also the 960 has a much better io than the 290!

290 is the way to go, you will not be disappointed..

GPU is really powerful, and you will be good with it for 2 years for sure! playing at 1080p

I am superficial as hell with my pc and I REALLY like the new windforce cooler (dat backplate) and the 290 doesn't completely go with my blue/black build plan!

It's so much more powerful, yeah a bit more inefficient than the new Maxwell cards but in a whole other league.

We're talking 20% when overclocked. 960 uses 134w when overclocked to 1550 core and 8000 mem. 290 uses around 330-340 watts at max overclock. Again.. Almost triple the wattage for what 25% more performance? No thanks

There is a 290 which is 199£. Has pretty beastly cooling as well and also has a backplate.

25%? Are you high? A 290 is almost as fast as two 960s. Its in a completely different league. Its 40-50% more powerful while costing almost the same. Its much better value. Also power consumption should only be considered when the two cards in question perform similar (i.e. gtx 970 vs r9 290x), when a card is much faster, power consumption is a worthy sacrifice.
