Best Core i5 ?

Go to solution Solved by That Norwegian Guy,

so i should go for 1.25v and 4.2ghz ? btw i will have a Noctua NH-D14 if that makes a diffrence ?

I meant you should go for the highest possible frequency you can get at 1.25v.

4.2 was just an example of the minimum you'd expect (if it was a really bad chip)

I get 4.7Ghz out of mine at 1.25v, (insane chip) and bumping it up to 1.28v got me 4.8Ghz stable, so that's what I run.

That air cooler will handle it no problem.

... i5 QUAD cores don't have hyperthreading. Went back and looked, saw how that wasn't conveyed.

The Internet is the first thing that humanity has built that humanity doesn't understand, the largest experiment in anarchy that we have ever had.

The optimal choice on the platform in question.

Just don't overclock too hard on that motherboard. 4.2 Ghz should be well within range. Or rather, aim for as much as you can get from a maximum of 1.25 volts on that board.

Why bother over volting if the platform is not the greatest, just see how far you can push without an over volt!

That just supports what I pointed out... It doesn't make it invalid.

Sorry, I must have clicked on your post by mistake.

Z77 boards are all designed for upvolting, there are none that can't at least handle 1.25v sustained, and if there were, they'd be considered defective and recalled

In case the moderators do not ban me as requested, this is a notice that I have left and am not coming back.

I haven't lost my mind -- it's backed up on a HDD!

So you two seem to have the idea that that information is somehow meaningful to the OP other than to further confuse him? You did see the board that he has? Do you think he is going to stick or even FIND a first generation i5 and put it in?

That would be the same as me arguing with him that a Pentium is a single core because 10 years ago when I was running it, there was a Pentium single core running at sub 500MHz frequencies...

Jesus, some people...

For socket 1155 get a Core i5-3570K though if you can find a great deal on eBay go with a Core i5-2500K

Well, since his question was pretty much answered on the SECOND answer, we're just talking, having "fun" you know.

I don't think how making something clear is hurting the OP or anything.

Since his other questions seem to be overclock related he should check out this video:

(Mind it's a haswell video but it's somewhat the same as Ivy Bridge, just you'll probably need higher voltage.)

Every chip is different, you need to see what you'll get for yourself.
