Raspberry pi or Raspberry pi 2?

Go to solution Solved by Hans Christian | Teri,

Yes, it is that much slower. You should absolutely order a RBPi2 now and wait.

Getting a gift for a friend. Was thinking about getting him a raspberry pi but the pi 2 is out of stock. Is the first pi that much slower? Should i wait for the pi 2 to get back in stock?

I think the pi 2 was around 4x as fast (not positive), so it is much better.

In theory it is 4x faster as it has a quad core proc vs a single core proc. Plus the rpi2 should be able to run windows 10 when it comes out.

It's the same GPU in the Pi2 as the original Pi so if he's doing something GPU intensive like a HTPC then a Hardkernel Odroid-C1 would be superior (it's practically a Galaxy S4 in terms of specs).I'd still go for a C1 regardless do to it being the same price not to mention it can run Android 4.4 or Ubuntu ARM.

As they said, this is a no brainier. No only the pi2 includes 4 cores, it's a new ARM instruction set and every core is faster than the original

Only if your friend plans to take a lot of pictures with a xenon flash is the Rpi original better :D
