What to upgrade first?

Sorkurie

So, currently in my computer I have a Windforce 770 4gb and a AMD fx 6350 (6 core 3.9hrtz)

My question is, which should I upgrade first? I'm still debating on whether to get a single 980 or save up a bit more and get two 970s. (keep in mind I want to get the G1 version of the cards) If I did do that, would my cpu bottleneck? Should I upgrade to a AMD fx 8350 instead?

Also, if I did get a new GPU, could I keep my 770 and use it for ONLY phsyx? I would assume that would give me better performance?

I also, would most likely need to get a water cooler if I did get the AMD 8350 since it runs very hot.

Im not sure which liquid cooler would fit. I have an NZXT phantom full tower and my Motherboard is Crosshair V Formula Z. I also have all 4 ram slots filled.

I'd appreciate all the advice :)

I'd be surprised if your 6350 wasn't bottlenecking the 770.....

So yeah, do the 8350 first, and yes you can use the 770 as a physX card

One day I will have my GTX 970. One day. PC specs are at my profile.

Not sure how to check what part works with what? Check out my compatibility guide!

@Fgtfv567 I figure'd my cpu was bottlenecking. I guess for now the 8350 would be the better investment. I'm just not sure which liquid cooler would fit. Plus, I've never personally installed one myself so I'm a bit paranoid of screwing up and causes a water leak.

Nuh uh. I'd upgrade to an Intel processor first. Core i3 or better.

Sig under construction.

But then he has to buy a new mobo and might not have the money.....

Tedster, I believe my motherboard only fits AM3+ socket Processors. So no intel processor for me

i5-4440 plus cheapo mobo isn't much. And then OP won't suffer bottlenecking. You'll bottleneck the same with an overclocked 8350 as with a 6350.

Yes, but you need to upgrade to Intel to be able to stop bottlenecking.

Pro Tip: use the quote button, I'll get it in my notifications button.

As for the water leak, as long as you don't puncture anything (don't screw fans to rad too hard) and don't bend the tubing in some wonky, mad scientist thing.. you'll be fine.

As for the sizes, make sure that the water block supports the socket type you're using and that the case supports the rad

Try this:

And the h100i will work with the mobo even tho corsair doesn't speak of am3+

Huh, okay. Thanks, I will look into that! (My bad, I've only used these forums a couple of times so I wasn't sure how to respond directly to someones comment)

That's a quadcore, How would that handle games like bf4, skyrim, Arma 3? I figure if a computer can run Arma 3 and descent settings and solid frames then you have a Great computer haha.

Actually maybe you're right....

8350: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819113284 179 bucks

i5-4440: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116942189 bucks

H81 board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E1681313073146 bucks

189+46= 235 bucks

FYI: No overclocking, locked CPU and non-Z mobo

No point in upgrading that GPU until you get an intel CPU.

edit: I suggest the i5 4460, it's the devil's canyon successor to the i5 4440 and most of the time a bit cheaper while being 100MHz faster. It will be faster than the 8350 in every game except maybe BF4 multiplayer, but even there it will be more than enough.

Newer games are becoming much more CPU intensive like The Witcher 3 and Mortal Kombat X, so it'll help to have a powerful CPU

I preordered Witcher 3, what processor would you suggest for that?

Either the 8350 or that i5. They'll both work, but i5 more
