Question about upgrading CPU/Mobo/SSD

Go to solution Solved by s3ns3,

do a fresh install. i did clone the windows onto ssd but only got problems. and after a month bluescreens. just do a fresh windows install and don`t format ur hdd so your data will still be on it

So, you are saying to save everything important, wipe HDD and install fresh windows onto SSD and move everything back to HDD / SSD?

you don`t have to wipe the HDD. just install OS onto SSD. if the windows on hdd will apear as a boot option afterwards just delete the hdd windows boot in msconfig

Tomorrow I should be picking up the following;
Intel Core i5 4690K
MSI Z97 Gaming 3 Motherboard
Samsung 850 EVO Series 250GB SSD

I currently have a fx6300 and some shitty low end mother board.
My question is; What is it that I have to do? I know how to install it all, but do I have to re-install windows on the SSD? A friend said that even with the samsung software, because I'm getting a new cpu/mobo, I'll still have to re-install windows?

So if I have to install windows onto my SSD, what about the data on my HDD? How do I move over applications and other things to the SSD and such?
Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

If you don't know how to copy data,then you shouldn't open up your PC.

I know how to copy it over, its just that I've been told you have to use the software samsung gives you to transfer data from HDD to SSD, but then ive also been told that because im upgrading completely new mobo/cpu (AMD-Intel as well) I'll have to do a fresh install of windows on the SSD, so i'm a bit confused.

you can clone your hdd with allot of programs, but there will be driver conflicts if u just go and boot into it, on the new system. Fresh install is the best. that way u are sure it Works. whit no old drivers laying around messing with stuff.

He never said he couldn't copy data over. He's asking what he needs to do in order to successfully perform a platform change.

Okay thanks :)

Before you perform the Windows installation, I would advise unplugging your hard drive so all data goes to the SSD. Sometimes Windows can be a little screwy with that if multiple storage drives are present.
