All that beat 8350 are i7 which have HT and cost much more, so what was your point there really ?

this is multi-threaded video rendering...and my point was just to show you that i'm not an intel fanboy i owned an AMD FX that i had running heavily overclocked and i'm telling you this chip was limiting my gaming experience in way too many games for my likings...

Here, if you want some results that are somewhat relevant to gaming, here is single-threaded results...look at the poor AMD FX...even at 5.35ghz it's still slower than an old core 2 duo chip (2008) at 4.5ghz....

i mean, there you have it...3.0ghz is all you need on haswell to match a 5ghz FX:

Also this tells a lot too:

Definitely a CPU bottleneck. APUs are really meant to run without a GPU. APUs are pretty great for cheap systems.

well...they can certainly feed lower end GPU's up to the R9 270 at 1080p for example without much a bottleneck...

the most recent ones like the A10-7850K for example (same as the 860K processor) could even be paired with R9 280 or GTX 960...

But the op is running an older weaker model along with a very high end graphics card...this is not good.

Personally, it never made sense for me to pair a discrete GPU with a CPU with video output capability in the first place.

I guess it's fine to pair a lower-end card with an APU, but I feel like the money could be spent better.

But yeah, APU will bottleneck the 970, 100%.
