Dremel smoking,need help

Greetings,

So I got a 200 series dremel from the USA.I live in India and I forgot that we have 240 volt sockets compared the USA which have I guess 120 volt sockets.

The moment I turned on the dremel it smoked a bit and gave me "the smell".After that I realized what was the problem and bought this - http://www.ebay.in/itm/MAXINE-50w-Voltage-Converter-220-TO-110-Step-Down-100-Copper-Transformer-Based-/261679674888?

I hope this will fix the issue as it is a step down transformer from 220 to 110 volts.The dremel requires 120 volts.

the dremel should theoretically work with both voltages, we have 230V in europe too.

 

you should check how much wattage your dremel needs.

You probably weakened the enamel sealant on the copper windings, It's fine as long as it doesn't do it again.

it requires 0.8 amps at low and 1.15 amps at high.

I dunno how much ampage my socket provides.

The transformer I am buying is only 50 watts.Whereas the dremel consumes 168 watts.Should I get a 200 watt transformer?

well, the thing you bought can only deliver 50w. you could have figured that out on your own.
