So I was thinking about getting two gtx 960's and run them in sli, but I have heard about some problems being caused in games, they are from older posts so I dont know about if those kinds of things are fixed now or not. My main worry is minecraft, with people saying it sometimes gets weird artifacts and also some saying one gpu would run at 50% while the other at 0% performance, but that post was made back in the good old days of the 400 series.

For those that are going to tell me not to go with the 900 series or not go with nvidia please dont post, I already have my mind set on that, atm I just dont know about problems the sli 960's could cause.

just get a 970, won't have to worry about SLI issues and it's slightly cheaper, but slighty worse in about the same ratio.

and the sli issues, and minecraft does not support sli to begin with

Go with a Lightning 290x or a EVGA Kingpin 970. (I read your post but this will help a lot)

I am recommending those cause the average 960 = $200 so since the HIGHEST end 290x's and the 970 are at $390ish its a good deal

Lets all ripperoni in pepperoni

I know you said to not post if recommending an AMD product, but seriously consider the Lightning R9 290X.

That card is a total badass. It's better than SLI 960s and I cannot at this point in time recommend the 970 over the 290X without feeling disappointed in myself for doing so.

With that being said, while I will never recommend the 970 it is a better option than SLI 960s.

SLI problems in games still exist.  Some common issues that I have run into:

- Some games simply won't use the SLI.  With one card or two you end up with the same performance of a single card

- GTA Episodes from Liberty City freaks out with SLI and decides you have the worst card possible, forcing all settings to low and resolution to 800x600

- Assassin's Creed Unity gives me glitches on screen, the water in particular kind of flashes

- Crysis screen kept going black until I turned of SLI

I have been considering getting 970s in SLI. but hearing all these issues really bothers me

So before you write off SLI. I should add a few points:

- Most games these days work fine with SLI

- You can turn off SLI for select games in the Nvidia control panel, this mean the ones with issues just don't get the benefit but those that work fine get the boost

- For Assasin's Creed specifically, without SLI you can't play it at 1440p on ultra because it needs that much power.  The glitches are better than turning down the settings and were introduced in an update so may get fixed in the future too.

Delete the Intro videos for AC:U, then boycott Ubisoft for managing to code an SLI issue into a game post-launch using Intro videos.

Feel free to read my guide for everything you want to know about SLI and about 20 things you didn't want to know about it. Also feel free to read my vRAM guide and then wonder why the 960 is a 128-bit card today. Then feel free to like the posts because they helped you, and curse me for taking up ~20 minutes of your day reading guides. Then proceed to tell various people on other forums that they don't know what the hell they're talking about when they say stupid crap, because my guides exist.

I have finally moved to a desktop. Also my guides are outdated as hell.
