Hello everyone and happy new year.

I have a strange problem. First of all, I have:

MSI 945P NEO (MS-7176)
Intel Pentium D 945 3.4GHz
Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) Dual Channel CL5
AMD HD Radeon 7770 1GB
Windows 7 x64

My problem is that I upgraded my CPU (I had Intel Pentium D 820) and now even bios is recognize 2.8 GB of RAM. I have checked RAM sticks one-by-one on all slots and recognized correctly as 2GB. But when both sticks are connected then I have 2.75GB recognized. (Not 4GB and 2.75 as usable, it recognized ONLY 2.75GB). The strange one is that CPU-Z says that I have 4GB of RAM.
Then I tried to insert extra 2GB of RAM. After that, Windows recognized 3GB and 2.75GB as usable (Total RAM was actually 6GB).

I was looking in cpu-upgrade for compatible CPU and it was.

Anyone has any idea?

board-big.jpg

I have tested all slot with both and single RAM. All slots are working properly. RAM setting are default and now is at 667MHz. There are no limitations for RAM in bios.

There are in green slots right now. I have tested in orange and one green, one orange. I have tested all the possible scenarios...

In new egg reviews I saw someone having a problem like you, he got only 3~3.5 GB recognized.

Before CPU and GPU install (Before I had Intel Pentium D 820 2.8GHz and ATI HD 4550) system could recognize 4GB. Hmm.... Very strange problem...

Maybe the CPU doesn't work well in the MB.

UPDATE!

Tomorrow I checked bios for further info and I am waiting for a CPU compatible with this mobo. I disabled quick boot and post logo.

I noticed that in the memory testing it goes to 2882496 and then it goes again from start. It's a memory testing loop. Look the atached photos too.

It seems that as physical memory recognized only the one stick of RAM... I ran memtest+86 for both sticks individually for many hours without any problems at all.
