Intel CPU for modded minecraft

Go to solution Solved by rtpb5642,

If you are just adding texture mods; a Pentium G3258 will get you over 60fps easily.

Remember to set aside enough ram for your igpu.

Hes adding more than texture mods, i have the 3258 in my server and it cannot handle modded minecraft even with a 780. The 4690k will provide a nice experiance.

Hi there,

I'm not unfamiliar with PC's but i don't know what to choose for my CPU in my next build since i want to play modded minecraft.

not the normal ones but the ones with over 200 mods without any optimization. I choose for the i5 4690k this moment but, if that's not enough to run the modpacks i am willing to change.

if you're planning on using any shader mods, you're going to need a decent GPU.

You won't necesserly need a 4690K unless your overclocking but maybe a i5-4460/4570 might be a better option.

as a guy that is all into modded minecraft i can tell you all that matters is performance per core. you *may* need a second core in *some* occasions. i3 is an edge case, but pretty much any i5 can run as many mods as you want.

my girlfriend currently has the 4690k with a slight OC on it, and her modded mc runs like a dream.

For Minecraft if you're only using two cores an i5 seems like a waste of money. Why not an i3-4160? That has pretty strong per core performance, being clocked at 3.6GHz. Of course an i5 or better is a must if you're planning on playing anything else with a GTX 970.

Assuming u have windows go to minecraft.net and get the minecraft server .jar

run it and close it, agree to the EULA file it made then run it again, then stop it with "stop"

then put all the files it made in one folder.

Port forward port 25565 on ur router

open server.properties file in notepad and put the ip as your computers ip address (u can find this out in cmd prompt with "ipconfig")

if the server will be running constantly i suggest making the computer have a static ip otherwise your ready to go

go to ipchicken.com and find ur external ip (give this to ur friends :D)
